Alia Bhatt has left an impact on the audience with her portrayal of a spunky medical student in Gully Boy. The actress plays Safina, a girl with no tolerance for any woman trying to flirt or steal her man. The actress is flawless because you can't differentiate Alia from Safina. Alia is only in a few scenes but she wins you over. But there is one scene where Alia left everyone gasping with shock. The scene in the trailer where Alia is seen smashing a bottle on Kalki's head.
This scene has generated enough and more reactions in the theatres and on social media. A couple of people appreciated Safina's outburst and then there were others who didn't feel that the Alia's smashing bottle moment was justified. A user wrote on Twitter, "Safina did not need to break a bottle on sky's head - a push n fall might have been more apt."
Discussing this scene with co-star Kalki Koechlin, she said, "We’ve spent 1000s of years telling what women should be and should not be. So I think it’s great that Zoya has gone ahead and not censored women in their roles. And Alia plays a certain kind of character who has a very fiery temper. So I think she’s done a fabulous job in representing Safina. And no one is black and white in the movie. It's not a story about how you should behave, and you should not behave. These are real, raw characters and I am glad they’re being portrayed realistically."
The film justifies Safina would definately would have reacted the way she did. Her actions like picking up a fight with Albina or smashing a bottle on Sky's head. It was pretty evident that she would have retaliated every time Murad lets a woman near him in any way. Given the character, the scene was well established in the film. However, the film in no way says that women should resort to any such behaviour.
