Because of Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan replaced Aishwarya Rai with Rani Mukherji in Chalte Chalte?


We have always loved Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan on the screen together. From playing siblings on screen in Josh to making us weep and root for their love in Mohabbatein to their chemistry in Devdas. This jodi was a rage back in the 90s and early 2000s. Later, SRK offered Ash a film he was producing Chalte Chalte. They had already begun filming but soon he had to replace Aishwarya from the film.



Back in the day, Aishwarya was rumoured to be in a romantic relationship with Salman Khan. The film had gone on the floor but one fine day, Salman came to the sets drunk. He ended up created ruckus which SRK considered a caution. Not thinking twice, Shah Rukh replaced AIshwarya with Rani Mukherji. He even made a public apology for the issue. He claimed that it was wrong of him and the decision was unfair to Ash but as a producer the decision made a lot of sense.

Shah Rukh was quoted saying, "To start a project with someone and then change her for no fault of hers is very difficult. It is very sad as Ash is a good friend. Personally I think I did wrong. But as a producer it made sense. I apologised to Ash." Aishwarya also reacted to the switch in a talk show.


The host asked her why SRK decided to replace her in Chalte Chalte, Veer Zara and a couple of other films, she said, "How can I have the answer to that? Yes, at the time, there was talk of a couple of films that we would be working in together. And then, suddenly they weren't happening, without any explanation whatsoever. I have never had the answer to why."



However, these two share a good equation even today despite the issues they might have had previously. We are yet to see an official reunion happening on-screen with both actors in prominent roles. Shah Rukh did do a cameo in Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that features Ash and Ranbir Kapoor. Aishwarya recently revealed that Farah and SRK had offered her the lead role in Happy New Year but she had refused.
