Koffee With Karan is known for making controversies. Not even Karan Johar could have wished for any more melodrama for an episode. This episode featured Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. These two went into details of their partying and sex lives. Twitterati couldn't take it anymore and started trolling them particularly for their comments on women.
These comments have received some unexpected repurcussions. The Committee of Administrators (CoA) that oversees the functioning of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have slapped the cricketers with show-cause notices. The cricketers responded with an 'unconditional apology' and blamed their innocence demeanor for the Entertainment show. In responce, The CoA recalled them from the Indian team's tour of Australia and New Zealand. An inquiry has been initiated against them for 'misconduct and indiscipline'.
Until the inquiry reaches a verdict, these two have been suspended from all forms of Cricket. They have also been banned from 'any match or function or event or activity that is authorized, organized, sanctioned, recognized or supported in any way by the BCCI, the ICC or any State Association, until final adjudication of the matter.'
BCCI's new constitution have charged these two under Rule 41. Like all constitutions, its rules ae vague and far-reaching. It is not clear whether a player's off-field behavior comes under the purview of the Board.
The question still remains - whose fault is it? Should the young cricketers aspire to party till 5:30 am while on tour with the Indian Cricket team based on the assumption that he is not playing the match the next day? Should a youngsters aspire to have made out with a girl at a party and then forget their names? Should Karan Johar be blamed for choreographing a show that provides controversial content because the advertisers would like it and the show could receive good TRPs? Should BCCI be blamed for jeopardising the career of young cricketers by benching them? Or is it the players who displayed their adolescent behaviour on a show whose reach they were aware of?
