Actor Amitabh Bachchan may soon reunite with daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on screen. Mani Ratnam is set to direct a period drama which might see these duo working together after a gap of 11 years. The project is expected to be announced on Pongal/Uttarayan i.e January 14, 2018.
Reports suggests that Aishwarya has already signed the project but Mr Bachchan is yet to give his confirmation to the project. Report read, "It’s a big-budget historical drama, which is being planned on the lines of the Baahubali franchise. It’s likely to be a bilingual project and star several other big names from the South Indian film industry."
Apparently, the film will be based on the adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's book, Ponniyin Selvan (The Son of Ponni), which narrates the story of Rajaraja Chola I. It is based in the 10th and 11th century. Talk suggests, "There will be an ensemble cast. The actors have already been asked to give bulk dates and commit a few years to this film, as it will be made in several parts. The book has five volumes, but the makers are planning to conceptualise it as three installments on screen."
Amitabh and Aishwarya were last seen in Sarkar Raj in 2008. Former Miss World decided to do a special dance number 'Kajra Re' with Amitabh and husband Abhishek Bachchan in Bunty Aur Babli in 2005. Aishwarya is alsi rumoured to have signed a project titled Gulab Jamun with Abhishek Bachchan. No other news has been heard about this film hence it looks like the Anurag Kashyap may have been dropped.
