Deepika Padukone announced her next film this Wednesday. She will be seen next in a Meghna Gulzar directorial. The film is based on a true story of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. She will be seen opposite Vikrat Massey (A Death in the Gunj). The film will be titled 'Chhapaak'.
Meghna revealed in an interview that the team was toying with two titles. Apart from Chhapaak the title Gandhak was being considered. Gandhak is the Hindi word for Sulpuric acid. Meghna felt that the word Chhapaak spoke to her really strongly and it resonated with everyone. She was quoted saying, "I bounced it off as it conveys that the film is about acid violence almost immediately and quite effortlessly."
Meghna also commented on the cast of her film. She mentioned that she wanted to work with Vikrant Massey since Raazi. She saw him in 'A Death in the Gunj' and decided to work with him. Meghna said the actor will play a North Indian boy in the film who used to be a professional before he decides to become an actor and then starts a campaign against acid violence, during which he meets Laxmi, character played by Deepika. Meghna also mentioned that both Deepika and herself were excited to have Vikrant on board.
Chhapaak, is expected to go on floors in March 2019. Deepika Padukone is co-producing this film. The release date of the film hasn't been announced yet.
